OIAJ

OIAJ?!

What’s that?

Oats In A Jar.

They have also become pretty popular in the blogosphere. I must agree, they are pretty awesome and perfect for people who are on the go and need a quick breakfast to snag on the way out the door.

I’ll get to them in a minute, first lets review the day!

RX plus week: Day 3 down!

I started this morning coaching the crew through this workout:

Coaching with no voice is hard. Just so you know.. It ended up being awesome though! We have an awesome group and everyone just laughed. I sounded reeaaaaalllly bad.. Hopefully it gets better by tomorrow!

I did the workout and attempted to work on bar muscle ups. They are ridiculous. One day…

Here is the OIAJ tutorial:

HOW TO MAKE OIAJ

Use an empty or almost empty almond butter or peanut butter jar.

Put 1/3 cups of rolled oats inside.

IMG_6176[1]

Add 1/3 C. egg whites which is about equivalent to two egg whites.

IMG_6178[1]

Add a little bit of water and cook for 2 minutes, stir and add 30 sec-1 minute till egg whites are cooked and a little fluffy!

*Keep an eye on it, so it doesn’t overflow!

IMG_6177[1]

Time for the add ins!

Here is where you can get a little creative. You can use water fruit, veggies, nuts or seeds you want!

Tonight I put in protein powder, flaxseed, blueberries, raspberries and a few drops of stevia.

IMG_6181[1]

Mix well. Pop the lid on and put it in the fridge!

It will be ready in the morning for you!

IMG_6187[1]

Done and Done. Also, if your wondering.. no I did not do my hair today and or make up, nor do I care.

This is real life.

Give the oats a try!

Tonight I had a 7 mile run scheduled and the RX + workout was a hike on my favorite running trail so I decided to do it then with the group.

We had a great run and made it to the top in 44 minutes! It is a pretty good elevation gain so I was pretty excited about it.. oh and I’m still kinda sick.

The view at the top was worth it too!

IMG_6195[1]

Love all these “dawls” for pushin it to the top! If you follow me on Instagram you can catch a video of us running down in the dark… We might of enjoyed that sunset a little longer then we should have. You can also catch a video clip of the workout today on GPP fitness Instagram!

Good Night y’all.

What do you put in your oatmeal?

Lucky charms, strawberries, chocolate?

Tips for Running in the Heat

Hey guys! Thank you for all the well wishes! I am feeling better today but I sound like crap.

My voice is pretty much gone. In a 80 year old smoker sounding way. Its embarrassing. At least I’m not sick to my stomach anymore!

I slept in, got a lot done around my house, dishes, laundry, kids breakfast etc. and ended up feeling good enough to get my run in today! Only thing was, the only time I had was late in the afternoon.. in 90 degrees. So much for beating the heat.

I took it slow and easy for 5 miles.

IMG_6109[1]

It ended up being a good run. I felt comfortable and was able to hold a 9:15-9:30 pace even going up hills!

Best Tips for Running in the Heat

1. Dress cool- Wear light colored shorts and tank. Also, pull your hair off your neck.

2. Carry water with you: I have a nathans running belt and fill it with water with some ice in it. I will even drop some nuun in it if I’m running over 5 miles.

3. Sunscreen! I wear sweat proof sunscreen and chapstick to prevent getting blisters and sunburned.

4. Plan your route accordingly: Try to fit in as much shade as possible. Run in a canyon or shaded neighborhood.

5. Slow your pace: Take your pace down by :30-1:00. Exerting to much can lead to heat exhaustion and dehydration. Relax and take it easy.

Along my route, I even spotted a red rock sign!!

I have a team running Park City in October! I can’t wait! I LOVE Red Rock Relays! They seriously rock!

The Park City is just a one day relay, just like the one I did in May. They are my favorite! No overnight grumps. Its sweatastic.

Tonight I headed to the Track for RX + week workout #4. It was so fun having a bunch of peeps from the gymthere!

Here is a pic with a few of the ladies! I wish we would’ve gotten a pic of all the whole group!

You have to love Taras {in the center} shirt.  Anyone else into shark week??

Today the twinners gave my patience a run… Having two three year olds is all fun and games. Which leads to mess, after mess, after mess….

Lucky for them, I can’t yell today….

I mean.. who yells at their kids?…

It lead to a lot of time outs today.. Oh, the joy..

At the end of the day….

White Chocolate PB Cups

Today marks DAY ONE of RX+ Week at GPP. Do you ever wonder about what workouts I do? They are all posted on the GPP webpage daily.

I kicked off this morning by coaching the first RX+ workout at one of our affiliate gym inside THE GYM at City Creek.

IMG_5964[1]

I grabbed a shake to go and headed to HQ to get RX #1 done for myself.

IMG_5967[1]

RX+ week is a week full of tough 2 a day workouts! We, as a community challenge each other to complete each workout and eat clean all week! For example: Avoid added sugar, white flour, eat BCD etc.

All information is on the site if you are up for a challenge this week.

As for me… I just got hit with the sickness that started in the family last week.. I was okay this morning, besides a sore throat and then got up to teach Body Attack and I felt really pukey.. I taught one track and decided I really needed to leave. I may or may not of puked in the parking lot at the gym.

Darn bug.

Everyone in the fam who had it, it only lasted 24 hrs.. here is hopin it subsides soon.

Anyway, I’m missing out on my training run today. NOT happy about that.. should of done it earlier.. but I might be in worse shape if I would of. Its okay to rest one day.—ddddd

Enough about puke, I made something delicious last night.

White Chocolate PB Cup

I’ve seen versions of these floating around Instagram lately and thought I’d give it a go!

IMG_5955[1]

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (I used Diesel Vanilla Protein)
  • 2 tbs. PB2
  • A few drops of chocolate stevia
  • 1 tsp. of Cinnamon
  • About 4 TBS of water (This will depend on your protein powder, when I use plant fusion protein I need to use more.)

Directions:

In a bowl mix together all ingredients.

Pour into silicone cupcake bowls. (I say bowls because they are huge!)

Side note: I picked mine up at target! You can also put it in paper cups!

Freeze!

Eat!

IMG_5956[1]

Bee even enjoyed it!

IMG_5958[1]

This is a perfect snack for anyone who has that sweet tooth at night! OR anytime throughout the day!

ENJOY!

I’m off to relax for the rest of the night and see if I can get better magically overnight. {PLEASE}

Who is doing RX+ week? Thoughts so far??

Who ran today?! How long? {I obviously need to live through you today.}

When your sick do you try to push through it or do you rest?

We headed to Island Park on Thursday to spend time with Brent’s mom and family. We haven’t been to Island Park since we were dating! It was fun to get back up in the middle of nowhere.

We spent a lot of time four wheeling rides to big springs, hanging out with the mountain men, rowing down a river, catching frogs, wading, shooting and fishing.

We ate fish all weekend, trout, halibut {from Alaska} and salmon too! We hung out by the campfire. Telling jokes, singing songs, and eating dutch oven and s’mores. Tanner fell asleep in my arms for the first time ever. It was perfect.

I even got my 15 miles done at a 9:27 pace. It was hot and dusty.. I learned my lesson about running at dawn in island park… Don’t do it.

There are wolves.

It was beautiful and absolutely perfect.

Never take nature for granted. Its right in your backyard.

Play in it.

Track workout and Lets talk Socks

Yesterday, I said bye to MEG! It was so great having her stay with me for the week! She is one of the sweetest chicks I know. We had a great time! Now, hopefully I get to go to Canada soon…

Yesterday was a busy day, I didn’t get my training run in till the kids got in bed! It was okay though because my sister came with me to keep me company. It was late but the weather was perfect! Its that time of year you have to either wake up early before the sun to run or wait till it goes down..

IMG_5823[1]

We went running on Bountiful Boulevard. We only did 4 miles with a few good hills. It is one of my favorite places to run because you get flat, downhill and uphill! Not to mention the amazing view! It is also the high school hang out and if your lucky they will offer you pizza and a popsicle! HA!

IMG_5822[1]

Yesterday, was the anniversary of my moms death and she is buried in a cemetery right off the boulevard. I can’t even believe its been 8 years! Still miss her everyday..

IMG_5820[1]

Thanks Heath for running with me!

While Meg was here we made a trip out to Salt Lake Running Company!

I got some 2XU for compression socks and some running socks!

IMG_5783[1]

I only wear compression socks after long runs for recovery, I have never ran long distance with them, I wonder if they would help during long runs? I have never gotten a cramp or anything without them while running, but I love to wear them post run. I really think they help me recover faster.

I use to not wear actual running socks when running but once I was introduced to them a few years ago, I can’t run without them!

I also snagged a Feetures plantar fasciitis sleeve. I’m still dealing with it, but as my mileage is going up the pain is not getting worse. I have a boot that I am supposed to wear at night but I end up ripping it off in my sleep every night. The feeture sleeve is awesome and I have been wearing it every night and as much as possible during the day and it has been great so far!

IMG_5791[1]

We also did a fun track workout the other night!

IMG_5777[1]

Love hanging out with my ladies.

Twin update: These two are officially done with naps… They climb out of their cribs and just want to play once I put them in their rooms so I started doing “quiet time” instead. I start a show, read a book, or color with them and just let them relax for about an hour every day.

After a long day of swimming, I can even catch a nap…

These two are my world. They are a joy to be with everyday and I’m grateful to be their mom. I can’t imagine life without them.

Do you wear compression socks? Real running socks? Can you tell a difference with recovery or performance?

I am on my way to Island park right now and can’t wait to spend some quality time with my husband, kids and his family. I have a 15 mile run to look forward to tomorrow, Island park is beautiful so it should be a good run! Running on vacation is one of my favorite things! I think it’s a perfect way to find your way around a new area! ….Or get completely lost.

Have a great weekend!
